To borrow Mr Parry's phrasing, nobody panic. The circumstances are being assessed, but we're a little short on capable hands right now. If you can speak and walk properly unaided, then you can help out those who are in a more dire situation.

Roll call: all staff check in here. Those who are unaffected say so. Also report to your respective Heads of Departments if you're fit for duty; field agents' missions will be shuffled around or passed on to other BPRD branches.

RE: Reassessment Schedule

[FILTER: All Personnels]

My confederates,

You will find your Reassessment schedule posted on the bulletin boards today. Everyone is given a week to prepare for this exercise and I trust this activity will pave the way to improvements and the eventual growth of our organisation.

Now I understand there has been a mood of anxiety regarding my decision, which I assure all of you as needless and pointless dilly dallyings. Performance evaluations are organisational procedures, I find it appalling that I need to bring this to obvious mention. I suggest that our agents focus themselves on the preparation and delivery of their evaluations rather the anticipation of their results. Let us not be too pessimistic, shall we?

I close my brief address with my best wishes to all. I should also remind you that your fates in the organisation are eventually in your very capable hands.

I remain,
Director Gray

Announcements

[FILTER: All Personnel]

My confederates,

Since I took up the mantle from my predecessor earlier this month I had been keen on studying the work that she has accomplished during her term--unfortunately cut short--of managing the Bureau. I have reached a conclusion and I would like to take this moment to share it with you.

Layla Miller governed the Bureau with what I see to be a laissez faire style of leadership, eager as she must be to empower the agents, trust in their capabilities, thereby cultivating independence and motivation. No doubt, this has produced excellent work in the past.

However I must tell you now. My method is not similar to Ms. Miller's. Allow me to justify why I will be managing the organization differently.

For our affiliates and those who recognise our work, the B.P.R.D. is a special agency of the highest calibre. They look to us with a great deal of respect and trust, such that must only be properly reciprocated. To tell you the truth, there had been criticisms in the way Ms. Miller had run our agency, especially during the problem with the Book. They saw that it was too lax and detached, even. There were suspicions that the agents have not undergone sufficient training and worse, there are claims that they have behaved questionably leading to some untoward incidents that had placed our public in danger. I am most troubled to say that these are not mere accusations as they are supported by reports and evidence.

My friends, I am not pointing these out to admonish you. Far from it. I write this as a point of deep concern, such that we as an organisation must collectively remedy lest we lose our reputation, our respectability, and ultimately our survival altogether. I promise you this will not happen under my watch. A lot of work needs to be done. I will personally see to this.

To begin with, I have decided to require all members of the Bureau to undergo a Reevaluation and Reassessment from the Deputy Director down the line. Mr. Jenkins have provided me all the files I need and I as your Director, only ask for your utmost cooperation and expect nothing less. Anything else will be regarded with suspicion, and may lead to forced removal under the grounds of insubordination. More information on these will be disclosed as soon as they are available. You may rest assure that all of this is for the better good of our organisation.

That will be all. Thank you and Good Day, Fairfield.

Don't stop what you were doing before, but do it quietly. If any of the Director's people catch you, deny everything. I will require daily reports from now on.

It has come to my attention that the open investigation into Layla Miller's death has not yielded any concrete results. Far be it for me to criticise the hard work of all those involved, I'm however forced to concede that your efforts have not been successful and any more time spent on the case would simply be wasted - you are all valuable resources of this organisation, and many of you will be needed elsewhere. It is for this reason that I will be disbanding the current team. Of course that is not to say the investigation shall not continue, but they will now be carried out by agents I have brought over from Bristol - I trust in their ability fully, as well as their objectivity, which may prove to be an advantage in this situation. I ask that none of you approach my agents, so they may retain neutrality in their work.

Thank you for your effort thus far, and it is my sincerest hope that you will no longer pursue the case, lest I be forced to hand down disciplinary action.

Good day.

Greetings, Fairfield.

I should like to thank Westley for the introduction he has made for me although to my former agents, this is hardly needed. It is true what he said: driven by necessity, I have become director of this branch and it was not an easy decision on all our parts. I am very aware of the responsibilities and expectations of being your director but I shall not look back and I shall not hesitate.

The same must be done by you, Fairfield. Layla Miller was a very capable, intelligent and brave director during her time with us. You should remember that it is not only you who are mourning for the great loss of such a woman, but so are the rest of the branches of the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense...and we are all taking pains to move on with you, Fairfield.

Rather, I should say, "with us, Fairfield."

Have a good day.

Some of you may have noticed that the Directors of other BPRD branches did not return to their positions after Layla Miller's funeral. After some lengthy discussions between the four of us, with inputs from various heads of departments and external organisations, a decision has been reached, and Mr Dorian Gray will be assuming the position of head of Fairfield branch.

Please make him feel welcome.

It's in my job description to give people the bad news, but never did I think I would be relaying this information: Layla Miller passed away Tuesday afternoon in her apartment. Her son, Jamie, is currently in the care of Marisa Coulter, and our thoughts are with him. Any messages of condolences will be passed on, he's not taking any visitors at the moment.

Layla's funeral will be held next Tuesday. Marisa Coulter, Ayame Sadoku and Katherine Pryde are in charge of organising it - if you have any concerns, or if you wish to speak, take it up with one of them. Heads of the other branches will be arriving on Sunday, and they will be requiring escorts; I'm naming Valentine, LeBeau and Black for the duty, sort it out amongst yourselves who will be responsible for whom.

We have no reason so far to believe it was foul play, but a team will be put together for investigation. I have been appointed Bureau Director temporarily, before someone more suitable can be found, and my deputy will step up to lead the field agents in the meantime. I'm aware that this will be a difficult time for people, especially those who knew her well, but I'm asking you all to be professional - Layla Miller dedicated her life to this work, and I believe no one would want to see her efforts wasted.

This is short notice. I've talked to several of you, however, and basically, you're that team. Investigate. That was a party line, that no-foul-play; it was bullshit. This didn't just happen. I want to get to the bottom of this thing and I need you to absolutely exhaust all the resources you have before you come back to me with an answer.

Someone have the autopsy report on my desk by this afternoon.

I need you to cooperate with the investigation team, they'll make themselves known to you. In the meantime, pull security footage, entry and exit records, I want to know exactly who's been in and out of this building in the past month.

The Book is now at 95% completion, and will ship back to Egypt before April 8th, with two agents on security detail. The perpetrator, Kefka, has been terminated. This case is now closed and filed.

Buttercup asks me to invite you over for tea.

Mission to contain the magician Kefka was a success, well done, all. We've now found a way to be putting names back into the Book, and will be slowly getting to everyone over the next week - from preliminary testing, the reanimated will simply fade away once the Book registers them. If need be, say your goodbyes now.

I'll be needing reports from Chere's team as soon as you have recuperated.

We found an empty book, and we've cause to believe that this is The Book of The Dead, and that's what started all this reanimation business. Some agents are working on how to reverse the Book's effects, so if you think you can help in any way, speak up.

In the meantime, holding cells are almost at full capacity, and security needs to be doubled. Volunteers, as usual, will be very kindly looked upon.

It's going to be a tough couple of weeks. Missions are going to be done round-robin style so all of you get a break. They'll be geared towards containment - try to avoid violence if necessary. If it's someone close to you, all the better, you could probably convince them to come along quietly. You're all trained for this so try not to go all emotional on me Be professional.

We've got a couple of them in holding cells right now, which is where all of them will go. Right now we know that they're completely healthy, mentally and physically, not ageing, and incredibly hard to injure/kill. Short of completely destroying their bodies, they'll just heal up and carry on. Strength and power levels are normal, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't watch out.

Fairfield's the biggest branch of the Bureau, so we've got to pick up the majority of the slack. Don't fuck this up.

There are quite a few rumours flying around, so I think everyone's heard by now what's going on, or have at least gotten a very skewed picture. Let me put some doubts to rest: we've determined that this is an external issue, and no one at the BRPD (any branch) is responsible for this. We believe that this is a deliberate attack, and staff are doing all they can to gauge the cause. It would be a waste of time to ask any of you to not panic - you're all trained individuals and I believe it goes without saying. This may affect some on a very personal level, and I understand if you need to take a leave of absence during this time, but I would appreciate it if you could keep an eye open and an ear out.

I can't imagine how difficult it must be for some, but you must remember that this is an unnatural occurrence, and you will have to let your loved ones go at the end of this.

Heads of departments will be giving debriefings of everything that is known so far, and delegate tasks. Our main priority now is containment.

If you are reading this, then consider yourself invited to the somewhat annual New Years Eve party. For first-timers, it's always been, and will probably always be held at my apartment, that is number 1203, and it's right above the facility. Please RSVP sooner rather than later, especially if you will be bringing a guest. My ability may allow room for vague precognition, but every time I try to estimate the number of people turning up it never works out right.

For all of you spending the holidays at home, take care, and Merry Christmas.
